Matti Kujasalo (1946)

Matti Kujasalo is a prominent Finnish painter and graphic artist known for his meticulous and systematic approach to geometric abstraction. Born in 1946 in Helsinki, Kujasalo's work is characterized by intricate patterns and optical effects that explore the interplay of form, line, and color. His art often involves the repetition of simple geometric shapes arranged in complex, precise configurations, creating dynamic compositions that challenge viewers' perceptions. Kujasalo's practice is deeply rooted in constructivist and minimalist traditions, and his works are celebrated for their clarity, precision, and intellectual rigor.

Kujasalo’s works have also been displayed extensively in solo and group exhibitions in Finnish and European galleries and museums. Donations have included his works in two important American art collections: the LACMA museum in Los Angeles and the Phillips Collection museum in Washington DC. Alongside public art collections, there are also works by Kujasalo in many private art collections in Finland, Europe, Japan and the United States.
